Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best way to get started?

You can call or email me to get started. Please let me know your name, (your child’s name if applicable), how best to contact you, and if you will be using insurance, which one. I will want to know what your main concern is that is bringing you or your family in (briefly - anxiety, work stress, recent changes, etc.) to make sure I’m a good fit for your needs.

How do I get started for my child?

For children under 11, and sometimes older, I meet with parent/s for a session before meeting with your child. This allows us to go over developmental history and a detailed discussion of your concerns. It also gives me a chance to talk with you about how I will work with your child and answer any questions you may have. You then have a chance to meet me first and assess fit for your family without having to bring your child right away.

Why attend therapy? What are the potential benefits?

People see a therapist for a wide range of reasons ranging from stress management to a diagnosed concern. Sometimes an event occurs prompting an individual to seek help. Others may attend therapy because working with a trained, objective therapist helps them work through issues they may have been struggling with for quite awhile.

Benefits of therapy can depend on your commitment and level of readiness. Therapists can provide support, problem solving skills and coping strategies for a wide range of issues. Counseling can be beneficial in gaining more clarity in one’s life or having the tools to be able to make better decisions or desired changes. Other benefits of therapy can include boosting self-confidence or improving self-esteem, improving communication skills, learning/finding new coping skills, attaining a better understanding of yourself, changing old patterns and developing new ones, or managing emotions such as sadness, anger or other highly charged emotions.
